Arkaba Station

  • SUMMARY
  • DETAILS
  • VIDEO

Arkaba Station is set amongst one of the most ancient landscapes on earth, in the Flinders Ranges. The area's geological history goes back to 700, 000, 000 years. The land rose and fell, the earth's crust moved and was broken, and parts forced together were pushed up to form mountain ranges.

Nestled next to the inspirational Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges, a huge dish like a cupped hand with bent fingers and with the western border containing the Elder Range and its peak Mt. Aleck, Arkaba Station encompasses the heart of the Flinders Ranges.

The Rasheed family heritage and pastoral ties in the Southern Outback date back before the turn of the century, with Deans father pioneering tourism in the area by utilising Wilpena Pound.

Arkaba's woolshed was built in 1856 and retains its historic charm, it is still utilised as a working shearing shed. Last century it served as a depot shed with up to 40 blade shearers handling the flocks of many surrounding properties.
